Overview of Homeopathy Education worldwide, focusing on European programs for MDs

Dr. Dora Pachova
ECH Education coordinator, LMHI Education WG, NVP Bulgaria

High-quality healthcare depends on high standards of education. Harmonization of education is very important in the time of globalization.

There are many different homeopathic education models and institutions around the globe – from undergraduate courses open to everyone  to postgraduate courses open only for MD, vets and  pharmacists. There are University programs, delivering Bachelor and Master degrees in Homeopathy and also PhD programs.  In this presentation we will focus on the existing standards for MDs in Europe.

The Medical Homeopathic Education Standards  provide an agreed framework for high-quality education and are a training benchmark for safe and effective homeopathic practice by qualified medical practitioners. A standard for Services of Medical Doctors with an additional qualification in Homeopathy (MDQH) exists in Europe,  approved by the Member States of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This Standard defines the knowledge and skills required by medical homeopaths.  It also makes clear the relationship between the conventional and the homeopathic approach and includes statements regarding clinical practice, ethical codes and conduct, basic educational requirements and continuous professional development.

Homeopathy is European historical heritage,  now practiced and thought in more than 100 countries in the world.  The European Committee for Homeopathy (ECH) represents nearly 45,000 medical doctors, dentists, veterinarians and pharmacists, specialising in homeopathy across Europe. ECH promotes the practice, the scientific development of homeopathy  and works with all stakeholders for the harmonisation and integration of professional homeopathic standards in Europe. During the last years several new Guidelines have been developed - Guidelines for the Training of Homeopathic Pharmacists and ECH European Diploma in Homeopathic Pharmacy, Guidelines for introductory courses, for hybrid education, and Homeopathic Provings Guidelines, harmonised by LMHI and ECH.

Dr. Jan Scholten

Jan Scholten is a well known homeopathic doctor and has been promoting homeopathy in many ways for over 20 years.

Clinic

Jan has founded the homeopathic clinic Homeopatisch Artsencentrum Utrecht. There are 10 doctors are practicing homeopathy in this clinic. Appointments for consultations can be made in the clinic.

Alonnissos

Jan has founded . The foundation promotes homeopathy by the publication of books, organizing seminars, promoting research and supporting clinics. Alonnissos is the publisher of Jan's books.

Researcher, Author and Teacher

Jan Scholten has done much research and has added hundreds of remedies to homeopathic materia medica. He has written many books, the most outstanding and well known are on his discoveries of the elements of the Periodic System. His work has been well received internationally and he has given many seminars all over the world.

Promoter

Jan Scholten has promoted homeopathy in many ways.He has initiated the homeopathic internet journal Interhomeopathy. He is founder of ,a company for producing administration and registration software for homeopaths. He developed the foundation , for raising funds for homeopathy and he has been working many years for the ,the Dutch foundation for teaching homeopathy.

Homeopathy and Minerals

Jan’s first book from 1993 describes the essence of many elements of the Periodic table: Acid (=Hydrogen), Carbon, Nitrogen and Ammonium (a compound of Hydrogen and Nitrogen), Oxygen, Fluoride, Natrium (=sodium), Magnesium, Phosphorus, Sulphur, Chlorum (muriaticums), Kalium, Calcium, Ferrum (=iron), Bromium, Argentum (=silver), Iodum and Barium. It was the first step in a new direction for homeopathy, the thinking in classes or groups. The picture and essence of Calcium is extracted from well known combinations i.e., Calcium carbonicum, Calcium phosphoricum and Calcium sulphuricum. The picture of Calcium can then be combined with Nitrogen and Chlorum to form new remedy pictures such as Calcium nitricum and Calcium muriaticum (chloride). This method, called group analysis, turned out to be highly successful. Homeopathy and Minerals, Jan Scholten, Alonnissos, Utrecht, 1993, ISBN 9074817017Translated form the original Dutch Homeopathie en MineralenTranslated into: German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Tchech, Hungarian, Servian, Russian, Japanese.

Homeopathy and the Elements

His second book is about the physical elements, also called atoms, the basic building blocks of all matter on earth. They are depicted in the famous Periodic table of Mendelejev, which most people will know from chemistry classes in high school. The elements are presented in rows and columns, which reflects their relationship to each other. Elements were put in the same column because they were very similar. Jan Scholten discovered that this resemblance is also the case for the remedy pictures of those elements. Remedies in the same column or in the same have a similar remedy picture. The rows reflect the themes of life:

Row 1- Hydrogen series; Unborn.Row 2 - Carbon series; Individuality, Child. Row 3 - Silicium series, Relations, Puberty.Row 4 - Iron series; Work, Adulthood. Row 5 - Silver series; Creativity, Middle age.Row 6 - Gold series; Leader, Ripe age. Row 7 - Uranium series; Retirement, Elder.

The columns reflect the way a theme is handled. The 18 columns are 18 stages in a development, going from impulse and start, developing further to a culmination and then decline. They represent the universal theme of life coming to blossom and then disappearing again. The periodic system is thus seen as a symbol of life, starting with Hydrogen and ending with the heavy, radioactive elements. The principles of group analysis, classification, are applied in this book to all the elements with enormous success. Pictures of remedies, then unknown in homeopathy were predicted and applied with success. It made the Mineral kingdom understandable homeopathically.Homeopathy and the elements, Jan Scholten, Alonnissos, Utrecht, 1996, ISBN 907481705X

Translated form the original Dutch Homeopathie en de ElementenTranslated into: English, German, Italian, Servian, Russian, and Japanese.

Repertory of the Elements

This repertory describes all the symptoms and essences that were discovered and described in the first 2 books. It makes it easier for homeopaths to retrieve the symptoms which had not been described in the repertories so far. The table is also used for the software Spiral that is an aid in analyzing cases, diseases and patients.

Secret Lanthanides

Secret Lanthanides describes the use of the Lanthanides and their salts in health and disease. It describes persons in a Lanthanide state and the cure with homeopathic potencies. The Lanthanides are elements of the periodic system with atom number 57 through 73. They have strong electro-magnetic and light properties.Autonomy is a major theme, hence the subtitle “Road to independence”. The search for freedom can lead to a spiritual development and desire for self-control. The Lanthanides are needed for leading ones own life, going one’s own way. It is the road to individuality and individuation. The psychological separation is physically reflected in the immune system and auto-immune diseases. The immune system’s function is to separate ones own tissue from foreign substances; it has to find out what “my own”.

Wad Stories 1

These are the lectures of 16 homeopaths during a seminar held on the Wadden Sea in Holland in the summer of 2000. The lectures are about new remedies like Aconitum lycoctonum, Sorbus domestica, Cotyledon, and Natrum iodatum, being an important remedy for Second-World-War issues. The analyses of cases, working with dreams, a special view on the Periodic System and remarkable experiences with the homeopathic treatment of animals are included.

Wad Stories 2

Again; these are the lectures of 16 homeopaths during a seminar held on the Wadden Sea in Holland in the summer of 2001. Subjects are Oleander, Humulus lupulus, Sumbul, Juglans regia and Coffea as some examples of plant remedies. You will also find particular information about mineral remedies like Calcium iodatum, Lithium sulphuricum and substances like Naphtalinum and Lecithin. One lecture contains a veterinary homeopathic approach of Foot-and-mouth disease. There is also a proving of Glechoma hederacea.

Minerals in Plants 1 and Minerals in Plants 2

These books have tables with the results of analyzing the mineral content of plants. This gives the homeopath a means by which they can understand the mineral influence in plants.

Professor of Homeopathic Medicine
www.vithoulkas.com
www.vithoulkas.edu.gr

George Vithoulkas is a Greek Professor of Homeopathic Medicine who is recognized around the world as the personality who re-established homeopathy in the 20th century.

He is the only teacher to permit students attendance at all his live cases; he explains the method of how to take a case, how to analyze it and how to arrive at the right decision for a homeopathic remedy. But the most important advantage for students is that they can observe follow-ups and results after the prescription.

In this way, Professor George Vithoulkas demonstrates the whole process of case management which thereby reveals thorough and empirical information concerning the application of Classical Homeopathy. This process is similar to instructions offered at conventional medical hospitals.

Professor Vithoulkas’ knowledge comes from 60 years’ indefatigable efforts to improve, through practice and constant research, the standards of education in order that the empirical effectiveness of the original Classical Hahnemannian Homeopathy will be recognized and accepted by Medical Universities and Medical Practitioners.

HOMEOPATHY SCIENCE AND ART

René Torres García, PhD.
77 LMHI Homeopathy World Congress,
October 2-5, 2024. Seville, Spain.

ABSTRACT

Science is knowledge in constant evolution resulting in only the theoretical and practical value from the trial-and-error dynamics.  Science philosophy requires consistent science and method interacting with reality.

By trying to get away from the material scientism in medicine, Hahnemann searches in philosophy other scientific paths in agreement with the human nature; he uses philosophy‘s dynamics to support the criteria to formalize the medical attention of the sick person.

The purpose is to do formal and fact-based science demonstrating the goodness in medical application and verification before the complexity of human suffering beyond tying labels and formulism. In this way homeopathy completes with dynamic retrospectives that which changes and remains in the sick person.

In agreement with his contemporaries such as Kant: the subject and not the object has to be empowered; and Hegel: the movement of the being is dialectic and aesthetic towards the Absolute; Hahnemann promotes a Copernic-like twist in favor of the sick person and as a consequence of the illness establishes the theoretical and practical baseline to take care of the chronic ill person, a fundamental chore of every physician looking for solutions and not palliation.

Following Hahnemann, the Sanchez Ortega process takes conclusive steps regarding homeopathy readiness and verifiability by defining with Hegel that confrontation is necessary; thus, exacerbation moves to the predisposing miasmatic condition expressed in psora, sycosis and syphilis.

The Hahnemannnian/processian integral practice completes an accurate and expedite exercise on curing the sick people.  Dealing with the disease results and symptom palliation is left behind.  Now human suffering is considered as a defensive/exonerative process providing glow, wellbeing and making greater purposes possible.

Treating the sick people following the less, more or dis movement criteria allows to address healing with medical science, method and art without loosing its quantitative and qualitative nature.

To conclude the practice with the sick person has to take place with science trying to be integral, aprioristic, synthetic, dynamic, comparative, analog, demonstrative, with projection and usefulness with no room for contentment but moving forward avoiding to remain in the medicinal simillimum to reach the miasmatic simillimum that addresses human complexity.
